Students from University of Houston-Downtown share academic knowledge and perspectives in this international learning environment.
The Tilburg – Houston – Kakuma project brings students and young people from three different contexts together in one international learning environment. Students from Tilburg University and University of Houston-Downtown meet and collaborate with young people from Kakuma, Kenya.
Each group brings its own knowledge, experiences, talents and perspectives. Together, they explore opportunities around education, skills, entrepreneurship, leadership and community development.
Kakuma offers a rich and diverse learning context. Refugee and host communities bring knowledge, skills, entrepreneurial drive, creativity and ambition. The project creates space for young people from Kakuma to actively contribute to the international exchange, share their experiences and ideas, and help identify opportunities within their communities.
Throughout the year, participants come together through Innovation Labs, Impact Sessions, personal development and collaborative projects. They exchange perspectives, learn from each other and develop ideas that can contribute to meaningful social impact The project is about putting academic knowledge in practice, learning from each other and learning by doing. It connects different forms of knowledge and experience and creates opportunities for young people to shape ideas together.
